Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said his players had taken an “extra step” by returning to the top of the Premier League in confident style with victory at Chelsea.

Gabriel stabbed over the line in the 63rd minute to end the hosts’ 12-match unbeaten home run and give the visitors a third successive triumph at Stamford Bridge with an assured display.

“For such a young team, the composure, resilience and courage they showed was phenomenal,” Arteta told BT Sport after seeing his side become the first team to prevail at Chelsea since their 4-2 win in the same fixture in April.

“It’s easy to say after the game, but to show it against this opponent takes courage. Winning at this stadium against this opponent is an extra step for these players to believe they can do it under pressure against big opponents.”
